I haven’t heard the word homecoming since high school, and since it’s been a few years since I graduated, I was a little shocked to hear that word at a college. My community college never had it. Yes, there were big games, but never a weeks worth of activities and other shenanigans going on.
I guess you could say this was a change of pace for me then. Seeing the campus decorated, and seeing more people then ever showing their warrior spirit, or spirit for their club/team/ or fraternity/sorority. If you weren’t just going to and from classes without paying much attention to what’s changed, like I do, then you may not have noticed the trees being decorated, or the many doors decorated through the hallways. These decorated doors (or at least most of them) were promoting this past weeks events as well as candidates from each of the above mentioned groups.

Like I said, there were activities all week, most of them around lunch time (12-2pm) in the quad, which was slightly a bummer if you had class during that time, but there were also afternoon events on a few days just for those occasions. If you didn’t see the decorated doors or happen to see a flyer anywhere (or know what the flyer was about) then you were in luck! There was a big sign (seen below) across from Bizzini Hall that was very informing on what was going on. Besides having the weekly events it also had what was happening that day, just in case you weren’t sure what day of the week it was (I tend to do that sometimes).
I didn’t get to see much of these festivities due to class scheduling but what I did see was pretty fun to watch. There was a little parade, a couple competitions, and for all you housing students a little tailgate party where you could make posters eat food and listen to some good music. Of course there was also the game, the whole reason for homecoming was to show spirit and build it up for the game. There were basketball games Friday night and Saturday and any chance you have of going to a game you should always take it and if basketball doesn’t interest you there was also which candidates won homecoming!
Hopefully next year I’ll be able to participate a little more or at least get to see a few more things going on. I can only hope.

I havent participated in a homecoming since high school either! But I’m glad to have read all about the activities you explained sounds like fun!
